This message is directed to Pomeranian lovers whether pet owners and/or breeders. Those who truly care about the health and welfare of our breed need to step-up and represent their dogs in the new Alopecia X Survey.

The OFA study has been available for awhile yet less than 1000 Pomeranians have been represented. Certainly the combined number of dogs held by global breeders far exceeds the mere number represented. Pets are another population who are clearly not adequately represented in this study.

The Alopecia X specific survey was designed to accurately report a true and real-time representation of not only the number of AX occurrences against the number of non-affected dogs, but also to collect and analyze the details noted about this disease, by the actual owners. The survey’s purpose is to report the truth. It was not designed with an agenda to prove or disprove currently held theories from either side of this great debate. It was designed and its sole purpose is to learn the truth.
Anyone who truly cares about the breed will support this effort by entering one survey for EVERY Pomeranian they own or have owned (living or diseased) and who is not already entered by someone else.

The only winners in this endeavour will be our dogs. The only losers, if the breeder and pet owner populations do not support the Survey, will be our dogs. Please let’s not let them down.

It may be easier for some who have owned a lot of dogs, to make a list of names first. Then set aside a little time each day to enter some names, until all have been included. Once you get going, the process will move fast.

Please promote the Survey to everyone who has a Pomeranian. Please copy the ‘Poster’ link and send it out to your veterinarian, groomer, doggy daycare, boarding facility, dog walkers and pet stores. Let’s all work hard to truly represent our breed so that this survey will reveal an accurate picture and hopefully help us to help the dogs.

While limited to purebred Pomeranians, this survey is open to all Pomeranian owners world-wide, including both pets and show/breeding dogs. It is important to complete one survey for each Pomeranian owned (living or dead) and whether or not it has been affected by Alopecia X. If responses are limited to only affected dogs, the results will be skewed and not prove an accurate representation of the incidence of Alopecia X in this breed.
